Frequently Asked Questions

F. A. Q.

Q:    Are Appointments Required?

A:    Because of the custom individual attention to each of our patrons, all sessions are by appointment only. This includes Portrait Design Consultation appointments, Portrait Sessions, appointments to view your original images and place orders, wedding consultations, and to pick-up finished portraits or albums. By scheduling first, we will be able to give you our undivided attention and provide you with the highest level of service possible. Should you not be able to make a scheduled session, please call us as soon as possible so that we can reschedule as necessary.

Q:    What is a Portrait Design Consultation?

A:    It is a no-cost, no-obligation consultation about how we can create and design the best portraits you have ever had. At this consultation, we will meet and discuss your ideas and I will help out with the fine points of clothing, make-up, choices of locations, your home garden, studio backdrops, style, best time of day, and how to design the perfect portrait to compliment your home. We will also talk about children, family life, special props, your home decor and the perfect place to display your portraits. In order to create something really special, a portrait that illustrates the personality of your loved ones, a portrait design consultation is a must! I will work hard to insure we are both prepared for your session and you will recieve the results you desire - portraits to treasure for a lifetime. Even if you do not book me, this service is still available.

Q:    What are your Studio hours?

A:    Our studio hours are Tuesday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Saturday 10:00am to 3:00pm

Q:    Are You Open to Any Ideas I May Have or is Everything Done Strictly Yoti's Way?

A:    There is nothing I love more than a client who comes in with a vision of the perfect portrait! Of course I will be open to any and all ideas and will strive to make those ideas happen. If you don’t have any particular idea, then that is just fine. I have loads of great ideas that we could disscus and use. If you would love to get ideas, look at magazines that would fit your future portrait session, like a "parenting type" magazine for a baby’s portrait or fashion magazines for H.S. Seniors. Just bring in anything that inspires you.

Q:    What is a Portrait Creation Fee?

A:    A "Portrait Creation Fee" is our fee for providing our services to you. Some photographers call it a "sitting fee". We call it a "Portrait Creation Fee" because together, we will "create" an image that is unique to you. The Portrait Creation Fee covers my time and the cost of the materials to produce the original images. This fee does not include any finished portraits.

Q:   When is the best time of day to do an Outdoor Portrait Session?

A:    Depending on what the weather is doing, usually the best time of day is about an hour or so before sunset.

Q:    How Long Will My Session Last?

A:    Portrait Sessions can take as little as 45 minutes (usually family Portrait Sessions) to as long as 5 hours (usually HS Senior Portrait Sessions). It really does depend on which Portrait Session is chosen, how many locations we go to, and the distance between each location.

Q:    Can I Change Clothes at the Studio?

A:    You are certainly welcome to change clothes in our studio. In fact, we highly recommend that you do so to avoid clothing wrinkles which may detract from your portrait. Hair and make-up is OK too, but for consideration’s sake, please do not let these preparations exceed 30 minutes.

Q:    I Have or My Child has a Blemish, Scratch, or Bruise!

A:    Scratches, bruises, cuts, abrasions, and blemishes are not a problem. Basic retouching is available at no extra cost. However, it is always best to address the issue before making the portrait rather than after than after wards. In severe circumstances, it is best to reschedule the session. Please ask if you have any concerns.

Q:    Can I Bring a Friend or a Relative with Me?

A:    A family member or a friend is welcome and can make a session more fun. We do recommend that for children’s session, you keep visitors to a minimum. More than one adult in the studio will create a distraction for the children. Remember, you may watch, but it is up to the person being photographed and the photographer to create the images and expressions. If you have special requests, please make them known during your Portrait Design Consultation.

Q:    When Will I See My Images?

A:    Excluding holiday rushes, it normally takes 3-4 weeks till the originals are available for viewing

Q:    What is the Method of Viewing the Originals

A:    Your portraits will be viewed in our screening room where they will be  projected on a 70" screen synchronized to music. There we can best show you the different options. When you come in to view your portraits, we will together determine your favorite image and select the perfect image sizes for your home as well as gifts or family album collections. To complete, I will also assist in the custom framing options.

Q:   Am I Subject to a Minimum Order!

A:    We do not require a minimum purchase for standard family, children, or HS Senior Portrait Sessions. While we do not require a minimum purchase for weddings, we do structure our wedding coverage into "Collections" which include those items most frequently requested by wedding couples. These "Collections" are priced as a whole and may not be broken up. We do provide "A la Carte" wedding coverage for those couples not wishing to purchase a "Collection". However, we do ask that you at least consider a "Collection" as they represent the best values in wedding coverage.

Q:   How Much Should I Plan on Investing if Santa Clarita Photographic Studio Creates Our Portraits?

A:    The Portrait Creation Fee Starts at $179.00 and most people who have their portraits done with us can usually plan on investing $250.00 to $450.00 in. Our  Wedding investments start at $1595.00. More detailed information on pricing can be given at a Portrait Design Consultation.

Q:    What is the Differences Between All the Wall Portrait Finishes?

A:    Well, to start, each Wall Portrait is printed on the same exact photographic paper (Kodak Professional Endura E-Surface Paper guaranteed by Kodak against fading under ideal conditions for 200 years), regardless of the finish. The finish has to do with how we frame the Wall Portrait. The Mat Finish is a double matt around the portrait and framed in the mat colors and frame of your choice. In the Canvas Finish, your portrait is bonded to masonite canvas then framed in the frame of your choice. The Classic Studio Finish is designed by mounting your portrait to Artboard then framed in the frame of your choice.

Q:    When are My Payments Due?

A:    The Portrait Creation Fees are due at the time of your Portrait Design Consultation. Payments for portraits are due at the time the order is placed. Please note that this policy does not pertain to our wedding collections. Please consult our wedding brochure for payment policies. We want to help you get the portraits that you need and desire. If you are having difficulties paying for your images, please let us know. We will be happy to work out a layaway payment plan for you. Please remember that we cannot release any portion of an order until the order has been paid in full.

Q:   Do Any of your Packages Include the High Resolution Digital Negatives?

A:    We wish we could but once the Negatives leave my studio, so does my accountability to the images I have created and my guarantee that you’ll absolutly love your portraits. Besides, a non-professional lab wouldn’t know what to do with my negatives any ways.

Q:    What exactly is your Guarantee?

A:    "We absolutely guarantee that you will be THRILLED (not just "satisfied") with your photographs and our service. If you arn't, for any reason, we will either do whatever is necessary to see to it you are THRILLED, or we will cheerfully give you all of your money back. No hassles, and no hard feelings either. If you're not THRILLED, we don't deserve to have your money."

Q:    What Exactly Does a StoryBoard Include?

A:    The Frame of your choice, the double mat in the colors of your choice, the portraits (of course), the glass, and the hanging hardware.

Q:    When Will My Finished Portrait Be Ready?

A:    Our Portraits and most collections are normally ready within three to six weeks of the order date, sometimes sooner. Wedding orders usually take about eight to twelve weeks after they are ordered. These times may vary considerably during the holiday rush periods, so please plan accordingly.

Q:    How Often do you Recommend Having Portraits Done for an Infant or Child?

A:    Your baby will change the most during the 1st 24 months of his/her life. We can capture these magical milestones through creating a Portrait History of your baby. The minimum I would recommend would be 1st week to 1st month, 3rd month, 6th month, 9th month, 12th month, 18th month, and 24th month. Some people like to do more, but I wouldn’t recommend less. After age two, I would recommend portraits at age 3, age 4-5, age 6-8, age 9-12, and age 13-15. Once again, some like to do more, but in order to get the fullness of the history, less is not advisable. Having your child’s Portrait History created by one who understands how precious these images will be for you and your child for years to come is paramount.

Q:    When Do You Recommend HS Senior Portraits to be Done?

A:    If your senior prefers outdoor portraits, then Spring, Summer, and Fall is best. In the Winter, we can make it happen, but keep in mind the yearbook deadlines. If your senior only wants studio portraits, then the seasons are irrelevant, only the yearbook deadlines.

Q:    How Often do You Recommend Having Family Portraits Done?

A:    Every 1-3 years and each time the stork has paid your family a visit or a loved one wilts away like a flower.

Q:    What Do I Do Now?
